About This Piece

Vintage Design

An exquisitely elegant and timeless desk with many fine details. The table is made in very high craftsmanship quality, a quality that the Danes have always chosen to put on their furniture.

The desk is freestanding and was designed by Peter Løvig Nielsen for Hedensted Møbelfabrik and manufactured in the 1960s. The desk is therefore between 55 and 65 years old and is still in brilliant condition!

The furniture has six drawers, of which the top drawers have locks and all drawers have longitudinal handles that are softly rounded.

The table top floats on the external legs, which gives the table a light and floating feel. The space between them also provides additional storage on both sides of the desk.
The table top has beveled edges around three of the sides that frame the table top nicely.

The back of the desk is equipped with a bookshelf divided into three compartments. All edges around the shelf have framing and beveled moldings.

The design of the desk means that it can very well stand freestanding in the middle of a room as well as along a wall, depending on space and needs.

The table is spacious with softly rounded edges and corners and is very stable. The cockpit is so spacious that even an armchair can be pushed under the table top.

Marked under the desk and two keys included.

155x71x74 cm and at the back edge the height is 76 cm.

In very good condition with very few signs of use!

About the Creator

Peter Løvig Nielsen

There is currently no verifiable biographical information available on the Danish designer Peter Løvig Nielsen.

Designing in the Scandinavian modern style that took the design world by storm in the 1950s and ‘60s, Løvig Nielsen is known for his wooden desks, tables, and storage units. Like many of his Danish contemporaries, Løvig Nielsen favored high-quality and beautifully grained woods such as teak, rosewood, and walnut, and his designs often featured tapered legs and organic curved edges. One of his most well-known designs is sometimes referred to as the Boomerang Desk (c.1956) which features an L-shaped table top on V-shaped legs with subtle brass detailing.

Although he was relatively unknown in the mid-century era, Løvig Nielsen’s designs have been rediscovered in the 21st century by vintage dealers due to the unusual ease in identifying them. Stamped “Løvig” or “Hedensted Møbelfabrik” for the Danish village in which they were produced, as well as the year of production, Løvig Nielsen’s beautifully crafted designs are experiencing a vintage revival.
