Capture

CapturePaul Cocksedge's new show, opened last night at Friedman Brenda in New York. One of our own popped along to check it out and was duly impressed.

You might have seen images around of Poised, Paul's curved steel tables that weigh in at over half a ton. They certainly are impressive, especially when you realize how thin an edge they're standing on, however, it's his work with light that's most captivating. White Light, an array of colored panels that fade in and out of intensity from a warm white light through to a vibrant spectrum of colors, is almost meditative, while Capture, a 5 ¼ ft. (1.6 meter) hand-spun aluminum dome hanging solitary in a black room, is at once both bold and mystifying. The white glow emanating from the dome is curiously uniform; it's almost as if the hemisphere is holding the light inside, preventing it from spilling out too quickly.
