Fantastic, mid-century, vintage, Scandinavian-style, extendable dining room table with a Rosewood veneer, made in France, in the 1960’s.
This gorgeous table is in beautiful condition, as it was purchased from the original owner, who bought it in 1967 and was well-cared for.
It carries a stamp that says “Ameublement NF Meuble” which verifies its authenticity, with “NF” standing for “Norme Française” , aka, “French Standard.”
Measuring at 140 cm when closed, the table seats 4 to 6 people and fully open, it measures at 236 cm (2.36 meters) and will easily seat 8 to 10 people
(please refer to photos with chairs for perspective.)
What makes this dining room table unique, is that rather than having a central butterfly leaf, or 2 separate leaves to insert once opened, the “extension”, is the actual “tabletop“,
which gets placed at the center when opened then fits into place, in between the “leaves” (each one measuring at 48 cm) at either end.
The tabletop itself, is distinctive in that its edges have a slight bow, instead of a standard, rectangular shape, giving it a bit of a special touch.
The table is in excellent original condition, with rich, deep colors of brown and burnt umber, and a sleek patina of time, in contrast with the lovely, natural, wood grain.
Given that it’s over 50 years old, it has some signs /small marks of age and usage commensurate with time on the tabletop, but nothing that affects its functionality or
beauty. We chose to photograph it in full sunlight, to showcase its natural colors, and a placed a 1 centime coin next to small marks, for perspective (see photos.)
It is also important to note, that underneath the actual tabletop, are long pieces of felt that rest atop the frame and leaves when in set up as a table to seat 4 to 6 people,
so when fully open, there are slight signs of the impression of the felt, as it was most likely used to seat that amount of people more often than a larger party; but in no way
is this blatantly noticeable, nor does it take away from the real beauty or sheen of the top itself. (We have included three photos of the tabletop standing upright, so it’s
possible to see the front and underside of the tabletop with the felt strips for perspective, along with a close-up shot of the stamp/sticker.)
Please note: When opening up the table prior to inserting the tabletop extension, there is a slight bit of resistance only on one end, just before it’s completely open.
This is somewhat normal in consideration of its age, but it’s also possible that the extension was not used as often as the actual, standard size and with time, should
become easier.
With the tabletop extension in place, there is a slight discrepancy of about 3 to 5 millimeters, between its edges and the leaves, possibly because our floor may be
slightly uneven or, again because of its age or, simply how it was designed, but it is not warped nor does this does this affect its functionality. We prefer to be as
upfront and provide as much detail as possible, so all is clear. (Please see photos for perspective.)
What’s especially nice about this piece, is that unlike many dining tables that come with additional leaves, the tabletop and leaves, are color-matched.
Additionally, the legs can be disassembled in the event that the table needs to be moved from one room to another.
All 4 legs come with their original chrome pads.
This magnificent dining room table is sturdy, stable, functional and a truly masterful piece of mid-century artistry that will work beautifully with and
complement any given environment. Width of table closed: 140/ Maximum width when open: 236 cm
