Vintage Design

"Edo period, Japanese screen ""Byôbu"" with two leaves in silk paper mounted on canvas with leather background with floral decoration ""Rimpa"" of wading birds and water lilies. Japan around 1800, slight accidents. L 186 cm H 173 cm.
The screen was used in the 18th century in the palaces or in the great houses of Japanese aristocrats. The Byöbu has two functions: The partition in an open space and also to block evil spirits. The Japanese floral decoration of the 18th century directly inspired the European movement which would create Art Nouveau based on the 3 Fs: Fauna, Flora, Feminine"
