Yasmin Bawa is a Berlin-based designer of objects, furniture, and spaces, who seeks to challenge our perception of everyday materials and how we interact with objects.
Drawing on careful observation of the topology of space, Bawa works sculpturally to explore form, material, texture, and color. Currently, her work is an exploration into hempcrete, a term for the basic mixture of hemp shiv, clay, and lime binder. Together these materials tell a story of strength, renewability, and versatility; fusing traditions of primitive and historical technologies to contemporary ideas for sustainability. All of these pieces are free formed without molds, allowing each one to be truly unique.
