Phillip Jividen

Cincinnati, United States

American designer Phillip Jividen was born in Cincinnati in 1989. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design, graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2011. After graduating, Jividen interned first with Matter in New York—a furniture gallery, showroom, and manufacturer on the Lower East Side—and then, in 2012, with furniture designer Stephen Burks. Jividen founded his own design studio in Brooklyn in 2015, before returning to Ohio in 2017, where his studio is now located in Cincinnati.

Jividen’s work is characterized by a purist approach to designing with quality materials and a refined, elegant style. The designer himself refers to his aesthetic as “contemporary minimalism.” It’s easy to see what he means with pieces like the Gradient Mirror (2015), which combines an absolutely classic minimalist silhouette with a touch of contemporary, digital-era influence in the subtle color overlay on the glass. The impeccable finish of the marble and powder-coated steel Ballast Table (2015), as well as the Slant Table (2015) in white oak, demonstrates Jividen’s technical mastery of a broad range of materials.

Jividen presented work at the renowned ICFF luxury furniture fair in New York in 2015 and he is represented by Room gallery in New York and Voltage in Cincinnati.
