Martin Oppel

New York, United States

Born in 1976 in Buenos Aires, artist and designer Martin Oppel moved to Miami in 1991. In 2000, he received a BFA in painting from Miami’s New World School of Arts. Between 2001 and 2005, he was a founding member and director of the artist-run spaces The House and Placemaker.

Oppel has had solo exhibitions at Galerie Perrotin in Paris and at the Journal Gallery in New York, and his work has been included in multiple group exhibitions around the globe. His multimedia work (including painting, sculpture, and more) is often playfully ironic, and consistently explores notions of functionality and context across themes such as art and design, representation and abstraction, and nature and culture. His works are part of important collections worldwide.

In 2012, Oppel opened a studio location in New York. He lives and works in both New York and Miami.
