Lisa Walker

Artist, jeweler, and designer Lisa Walker was born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1967. From 1988 to 1989, she studied Craft and Design at Otago Polytechnic Art School in Dunedin, New Zealand, under tutor Georg Beer. She then traveled and worked in Australia, Great Britain, and Asia for two years, eventually opening her own workshop in central Australia and becoming a founding member of the Workshop 6 jewelry studio in Auckland, New Zealand.

Between 1995 and 2001, Walker studied under Otto Kuenzli at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany, staying to establish the Lisa Walker Studio in Munich in 2002. She later relocated her studio to Wellington in 2010. Walker’s work is exhibited in venues around the world, and her pieces are included in the collections of Otago Polytechnic, Dunedin; Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim, Germany; Die Neue Sammlung, Munich; Musée des Arts Décoratif, Paris; and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, among others.

Walker works in a wide range of materials and techniques, and draws inspiration from a variety of sources. However, her pieces are often laced with references to contemporary jewelry design from the late 20th century through today, questioning ideas about the role of jewelry as well as societal definitions of beauty.
