In just two years since earning her BFA from MICA, Maryland-based ceramist Dana Bechert has caused quite a stir among New York tastemakers. It’s only a matter of time before her reputation spreads abroad.
This Brick Dash Vase is handcrafted in vitrified porcelain and features a layered, geometric surface pattern, which Bechert achieves by coating the unglazed pot in dark slip and then carving it away to reveal the white clay beneath. The piece is signed on the bottom.
Bechert’s aesthetics and techniques are inspired by Native American ceramics and a passion for sustainable and socially minded practices. Meet the face of young craft production in the U.S.
